Postponed departure.

We were due to leave Pillings Lock Marina today, but it was damp and breezy, not good boating weather, so we decided to stay for another night. Getting a bit wimpy, aren’t we!

The car went back to Enterprise today, so we’re now back to my two wheels (one of which seems to have developed a slow leak) or shanks’s. I got all the cupboards filled with a good shop at Tesco’s first, though.

We’ll be hanging about on the Soar for the next week or 10 days, then retracing our route back to and up the Trent and Mersey Canal. We’d originally intended to head south, around the Leicester Ring, but going back up towards Stoke we can meet up with George and Carol on NB Rock’n’Roll before the winter. In fact, before they get their new boat in the spring.

We’ll probably head down the Staffs and Worcester from Great Haywood, then back up the Shroppie and onto the Llangollen for the winter. Looks like we’ll be on our tod this year. Hey ho.

It’s suddenly got very light – the widebeam alongside has just pulled out.

How’re yours doing, Val? These are in a compound near the end of our pontoon.

Leaving here tomorrow, we’ll be heading downstream towards Thurmaston. James and Doug on NB Chance are at MGM having the paintwork freshened up, so we’re going to see if we can catch up with them. We had a fleeting meeting in Barrow a couple of weeks ago.

While we’ve been here on mains hook-up I‘ve taken the opportunity to run an equalise charge on the domestic battery bank. Three hours charging at 15.4 volts should have boiled off any deposits on the plates… I hope. It made them fizz a bit, anyway!

Andy, sorry we'll miss you, now. I went round to introduce myself to the new owners of Brindley this afternoon, but there was no-one home. I've not posted your comment, maybe a bit too much personal info, but  feel for both of you having to give up boating. I hope your future plans come to fruition, we'll have to look you up if we get down there! If you drop me another comment with your email address (I won't publish it), we'll be able to keep in touch.

I guess we'll pass each other as some point too. We'll be heading down the T&M and onto the Soar on our way back to base.
