Election Day!

I hope you’ve all toddled off to put your X on the ballot paper. Although frankly I’m a bit cynical about the differences between the parties.
We’re no longer on the Electoral Roll, so you can’t blame us no matter which way it goes!

We toddled off too. Further up the Macclesfield Canal to Bridge 86. Our mail hasn’t arrived yet, and if we don’t get moving north soon we’ll have to make a dash for Manchester. And we don’t do dashing!
This is about the last spot from where I can sensibly walk back to Scholar Green. If the package doesn't arrive tomorrow we’ll have to make arrangements to collect it further up the canal.

It’s not been a bad day, a couple of showers and cool temperatures. A bit grey and overcast though.

First stop was Hall Green Stop Lock, the 1 foot climb putting us officially on the Macclesfield Canal.

Approaching the stop lock – in the rain.
Then we topped up the water tank. You can always tell boats that have recently come up from the Trent and Mersey. The rust stained water leaves a tell-tale tidemark on the hull.

Then we made a stop at Heritage Narrowboats for some solid fuel. I don’t think we’ve ever had to buy fresh stocks in May before!
Moored at the marina is the boat we saw at Harral Brokers 3 weeks ago. I wondered at the time if the new owners would keep the name…… I guess not!

We moored shortly after passing the impressive façade of Ramsdell Hall.

We’re in the shadow of Mow Cop here. Each time we’ve stopped here in the past I’ve had a walk up to the top, but not this time. We’ll want to be on the move tomorrow. On April 18th it was the venue for the resurrected Mow Cop Hill Race, 6½ miles and 1,260 feet of climbs. I bet that makes your legs ache.
If you fancy something a bit shorter, a week later was the Mow Cop Killer Mile. A measured mile course with 550 feet of ascent. The winner made it in 7:04. Wow. That’s my best 10k mile on the flat!

There’ve been a few boats on the move today, but not as many as you might expect. I hope the same applies when we arrive at the bottom of the 12 lock flight at Bosley tomorrow.

Locks 1, miles 2½
